Base Camp
7 Hours
Start off with a memorable one-hour ride down one of the nation’s most scenic and beautiful highways, where you will experience breathtaking views of mountain ranges, hanging glaciers, ocean coastline and wildlife. Your guide will narrate highlights of the area, Alaska’s history and other interesting facts on your way to Girdwood.
Once in Girdwood you will enjoy a spectacular, self-guided, roundtrip hike (5 mi.) down an easy, dirt and plank trail where you’ll be able to enjoy the breathtaking views of Winner Creek Gorge. This trail takes you under the lush canopy of the Chugach National Forest – America’s northernmost rainforest!
When you’re finished exploring, you can use your $15 food voucher at the Tramway Café inside the Alyeska Resort. They offer indoor seating, or you can choose to picnic outside on the terrace which overlooks the beautiful flower gardens and pond.
If you have time to spare, consider taking a stroll around the well manicured grounds, or pop into one of their gift shops for a last minute souvenir, before boarding our shuttle for your return trip to Anchorage.

Bird’s Eye

Gold Rush
7 Hours
Start off with a memorable one-hour ride down one of the nation’s most scenic and beautiful highways, where you will experience breathtaking views of mountain ranges, hanging glaciers, ocean coastline and wildlife. Your guide will narrate highlights of the area, Alaska’s history and other interesting facts on your way to Girdwood.
Once in Girdwood, you will enjoy a spectacular, self-guided, traverse hike (3 mi.) down an easy to moderate dirt and plank trail under the lush canopy of the Chugach National Forest – America’s northernmost rainforest!
You will experience breath-taking views at Winner Creek Gorge, and a thrilling walk across a suspension bridge that takes you 100 feet above the rushing Glacier Creek*. Once you cross the creek, you will continue on the trail until you get to Crow Creek Mine.
At Crow Creek Mine you will be given a gold panning demonstration. After your demonstration you will receive a gold pan, shovel, bucket, glass vial, and a packet of pay dirt to practice with. Each packet contains a few pieces of gold to ensure that you have the right technique before heading down to the creek to begin prospecting for more gold. Once you are finished gold panning, you will take the Glacier Valley Transit back to the Alyeska Resort.

* For the Summer of 2022 season, the suspension bridge across Glacier Creek will be closed. At the end of the trail, you will need to do a roundtrip hike back to where our shuttle dropped you off for a ride to Crow Creek Mine. This will add two additional miles to your hike making your hike a total of 5 miles.

Hike-n-Brew

Rafter’s Choice
7.5 Hours

After lunch we will take you to the Alaska Backcountry Access meeting point, where they will shuttle you to the trailhead of the Winner Creek Trail. You will hike a mile to meet up with your raft and gear up in a dry-suit, helmet, life vest, and booties to prepare for your rafting adventure. Once in your paddle raft, your guide will navigate you through fast turns and non-stop class II-III whitewater action. To add to the thrill, you will be passing by some unforgettable scenery, including cascading waterfalls that flow into the canyon.

Mush On!

You will be picked up by Gold Mine Safari Tours for an 8-mile journey in their open air Pinzgauer. You will ride along the historic Iditarod trail to an elevation that showcases stunning views of the surrounding mountains. They will drop you off with the Girdwood Mushing Company where you will meet 8-time Iditarod musher Nicolas Petit, and his amazing sled dogs. Observe dog handling techniques and interact with the dogs that ran the 1,049-mile Iditarod race. Experience the excitement and energy of these dogs as they pull you along for a 20-minute ride in their dog sled cart. You can feel the raw power of these sled dogs as you ride through trails high up in the mountains.
After your dog sled cart ride, you will visit their puppy pavilion. This will be your chance to cuddle and play with future Iditarod racers, or check out Iditarod memorabilia including Nick’s racing sled, trophies, and all the gear and warm clothing that he needs to survive while racing over a thousand miles in unforgiving conditions.
Once you are finished at the Girdwood Mushing Company, the Pinzgauer will take you back to the Alyeska Resort. There you will take an aerial tram for a 2,000-foot vertical ride to the top of Mt. Alyeska, overlooking Turnagain Arm with its panoramic views of the Chugach Mountain Range including seven “hanging” glaciers. Consider popping into the Roundhouse Museum and Gift Shop or take a walk around the area for photo ops.
After returning from your visit to the mountain top, we will take you to the Girdwood Brewing Company. There you can relax and reminisce about your adventure-filled day while enjoying a refreshing sampler paddle of their locally crafted beers, before our journey back to Anchorage.
